Appearing on The Big Questions and The Sunday Programme over the weekend

Labour Party

As many will know, my prostitution report goes to the full European Parliament to be voted on this Wednesday. The report recommends the Swedish Model, by which selling sex is legal but buying it is against the law.

On Sunday I went onto the BBC’s Big Questions to discuss the issue. Other guests discussing the topic included Ruth Jacobs, Belinda Brooks-Gordon, the Reverend Lynda Rose and Andy Bodle. The variety of different voices on the panel showed the huge range of opinions and perspectives that exist on this topic. The programme can be viewed below:

Also at the weekend I appeared on Radio 4’s The Sunday Programme, again to discuss prostitution. The show, which covers religious and ethical questions, provided an interesting take on the issue. You can listen again by clicking below:

On Monday, meanwhile, I was delighted to see an open letter in support of my report, which was signed by over 70 academics and prostitution experts worldwide. The letter was sent to all British MEPs encouraging them to endorse my report, on the basis that “Choices made in conditions of being unequal cannot be considered ‘free’.” This provides a fantastic boost in advance of tomorrow’s vote.
