Vote Yes Today

Labour Party

Today is referendum day, your chance to vote for a fairer system for choosing our MPs.

As you all know I’m a passionate supporter of proportional representation and have been for a long time. Britain needs to change the outmoded way we elect our Members of Parliament and finally catch up with the 21st century.

So, please cast your vote, and vote “yes” to the Alternative Vote.

As Eddie Izzard, a true Labour activist and AV supporter, said at the launch of the “Yes” campaign:

“This is the only time we have been asked to change the way we do politics in this country and I think we should seize the moment.

“I don’t want to wake up after the referendum and find out it’s just business as usual at Westminster.”

Since there are no elections in London other than the AV referendum, I will be campaigning in Thurrock tomorrow, where Labour will, I am sure, do well. Good luck to all candidates, friends and comrades.

  1. I thought Martin Linton did a valuable article on the New Guinea red herring.

The people there have had experience of both systems and know perfectly well which they prefer… AV expresses exactly their felings.
