Is there a sillier man in public life than Daniel Hannan MEP?

That’s the question Oliver Kamm at the Times asks? He gently demolishes Daniel’s latest crass assertion. I suspect Oliver is not that familiar with many of the other Conservative MEPs so he may be a little unfair to Daniel.

I do hope Daniel will be campaigning in the General Election to tell people how the NHS makes them iller and is a 60 year mistake. Somehow I suspect he may be hidden away in Brussels and Strasbourg for the duration.

  1. Mary,

Did you read the comments? Not exactly overwhelming support for Oliver Kamm’s supposition. Hannan may occasionally have off days, who doesn’t, but he is a fluent & accomplished public speaker. His demolition of GB’s record in the euro parliament was remarkable.

By the way – “makes them iller”!! Back to school for you!

  2. I am not a fan of Daniel Hannan but it is good that he takes the rouble to keep reminding us that for every year that the UK has been a member of the EU, it has traded at profit with every continent in the world except for Europe where it always trades at a loss.
The EU’s many apologists like us to think that we need to sacrifice a little sovereignty so that we can make economic gains. The opposite is the truth, we are sacrificing economic gain in order to lose all our sovereignty.

  3. The ungammatical phrase ‘makes you iller’ was from Daniel Hannan, not from Mary, she only quoted him. The one who should go back to school is Mr. Hannan.
If Geoff wants to be really precise about English perhaps he should spell his Christian name with a capital letter.

Daniel Hannan is a politician with views on the NHS despised by the vast majority of Britains. As to your English note thank you but I am just quoting Daniel, you are right – he must do better. As you seem unaware here’s Daniel’s extreme view

Daniel O we fundamentally disagree it is a big world out there and a little Englander approach does not work, just ask Iceland.

  5. Mary,
OK – his words not yours! If you are going to quote other peoples wonky grammar though can I suggest quotation marks so I don’t make a twit of myself?

I don’t know why you think everyone automatically disagrees with DH’s comments though – after all he is elected which is more than you can say for the Commission. The NHS does want fixing – too big, too expensive & standards not high enough.

As to your last – it may be a big world – but who’s to say the EU is the best solution? In fact its hard to see what the question was if the EU is the solution. If it’s that wonderful you’d win a vote hands down but GB ducked that one.

Daniel, from yours – “but it is good that he takes the rouble….” Funny how one missing letter completely alters the sense! You make typos & I use lower case.
