This week I spoke in the European Parliament about the next EU strategy for equality between women and men.
Despite fierce opposition, not least from the Tories who voted against the report, it passed by a majority. This is a very positive outcome for women in Europe and across the wider world.
The report makes a comprehensive assessment of what needs to be done to advance gender equality at all levels over the coming years, including: closing the gender pay gap, preventing violence against women and ensuring that women have access to reproductive health and rights.
I highlighted the issue of human trafficking which I see as a priority for women’s rights. You can listen to what I had to say here.
