This is said to be because women play three-set matches so are on court for less time. It ignores the fact that it takes just as much time, dedication, coaching, equipment etc etc to reach the top of the game regardless of how much time you spend on court. Imagine if all sportspeople were paid according to how long their sporting events lasted. Test match cricketers would be rolling in it compared with footballers!
