I was meaning to comment on the blog about small percentages of women mathematicians: I spent nearly ten years working as a statistician in an actuarial department. During that time my department was 100% male apart for secretaries. After I retired some women actuaries came into the department, and on my visits back I felt the atmosphere was a better one.

After I retired I took on a small part-time job with a lady supervisor. Would I go back to a male supervisor? Not at all sure!
