It was lovely to be invited to South Camberwell Labour Party’s summer party at the end of last week. It was a fun and friendly event marred only by the torrential rain outside, which I unfortunately had to drive through. Not a very pleasnat experience especially when, like me, you drive an oldish, very small two seater with a targa roof and dodgy seals. (It’s a Suzuki Cappuccino circa 1995 if you’re interested, which I have had for nearly ten years – a fun car with a 650cc turbo chatged engine…………and my other car isn’t a Porsche!)
It was good to see Val Shawcross at the party and we were all pleased to congratulate her on being selected as prospective parliamentary candidate in Southwark and Bermondsey. Good luck Val in what will be a hard fought election. If anyone can win it, it’s you. I was also pleased to see Cllr Peter John, Labour Group Leader on Southwark Council and Veronica Ward, one of the local councillors.
Thanks to to Stephen, pictured in the photo with Veronica, Val and Peter and also to Terry Browning, a stalwart of the South Camberwell Labour Party who is sadly for the Branch, moving out of the area. It was with great pleasure that I presented Terry with his leaving card and told him that he would be receiving a red apple tree for his new garden as a leaving present and to thank him for all the work he has done for the Labour Party over the years.
The party was held in Hoopers Bar, a great old pub off Denmark Hill on the current border between Dulwich and West Norwood, and Camberwell and Peckham Constituencies and greetings were sent by both Harriet Harman and Tessa Jowell, the two local MPs. A great evening and my thanks to those who organised it and made the party such a success.
