42,000 AND RISING

Just to say that I have now had over 42,000 hits on this blog since the beginning of the year. This represents a big increase on a year ago.

I am pleased with this figure. Since my blog concentrates mainly on EU and European issues and Women’s Rights, it isn’t to everyone’s taste, to put it mildly. It’s therefore heartening to know that there are a good number of people who do want to read about these subjects and come to my blog for comment and information.

I certainly intend to continue with the blog during the forthcoming session of the European Parliament. I have, over the past couple of years, tried to bring news and views from the Parliament and give a flavour of what goes on. I suspect reporting from the House of Commons would be easier, but I am a firm believer that those of us elected to represent the British people in the European Union should do all we can to make the sometimes arcane processes adopted by the European institutions as accessible as we can.

Since one of my main Committees in the European Parliament is the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee and my life’s passion has been to improve rights for women, I have concentrated on this area of my work. I only wish more politicians would do the same. I first joined the Labour Party because 35 years ago I believed it was the only political party in Britain which fought for equality. I believe the same is true today.

I’d like to have 100,000 hits on this blog by the end of 2009. That would be some measure of success. My thanks to all of you for your support.
