HARROW LABOUR WOMEN’S FORUM

Yesterday was a women’s day, Harrow Labour Women’s Forum following hard on the heels of the Somali women’s event.  I always enjoy talking to women’s groups.  Despite what  certain men may think there is still a need for women to get together to talk about things which concern them and give each other mutual support.

This meeting in the evening was the newly established Harrow Labour Women’s Forum who had invited me to the grandly titled “An Evening with Mary Honeyball”.  It was very touching to be billed in such a way.

This was another lively meeting with switched on, well informed women.  My thanks to Councillors Nana Asante and Margaret Davine for organising the evening.

We spent some time discussing adverts for sexual services in local newspapers.  My condemnation of these ads really resonated with everyone, not only because the ads themselves are appalling but also due to the fact that many of the women whose services are advertised will have been trafficked into this country against their will.  There’s a lot behind these advertisements which is not immediately obvious and there is little doubt that they support criminal activity.  I am hoping to step up my campaign against sex ads in local papers after the European elections.
