Remembrance Sunday is always a poignant, sad day, thinking about those killed in combat and those they left behind. For people my age, it evokes strong memories of lost and wounded relatives and reminds us of the war stories which were very much part of our growing up. During my schooldays the whole country stopped for two minutes at eleven o’clock on 11 November.
With conflict raging in Afghanistan, Remembrance Day this year had a special relevance. It was with a heavy heart that I went to the Remembrance ceremony at St Leonard’s Church, Heston, followed by laying wreaths at the Heston War Memorial.
I am pictured with Hounslow Councillor Gurmail Lall, Mukesh Malhotra of Hounslow Rotary International, President of Hounslow Rotary Jay Gandhi, and Councillor Elizabeth Hughes.
