GLAMOROUS BERND POSSELT MEP – TIME TO CLOSE YOUR FANSITE?

My fellow MEP Bernd Posselt is a member of the German Christian Social Union (CSU) which is the right wing party which exists only in Bavaria. He is a big campaigner for Sudeten Germans. I am indebted to euroblogger Jon Worth for the twitter tip on Bernd’s fan site.

I am always open to new campaigning ideas but I think a fan site might be a little ambitious. Maybe it is a German thing. The fan site invites people to

“Come and learn about the charismatic and glamorous politician, Bernd Posselt.”

I am unsure glamour is the correct translation, as there are many adjectives I might use, but glamorous is not top of the list. Again, perhaps German style has a  different sense of glamour. Bernd Posselt style icon? I would be a little embarrassed if in 4 and half years, only 9 people left a message in the guestbook of my fan site, that is only one message every 6 months. Congratulations to Bernd for playing it straight, and not getting his friends and family to post and make it look like he does have lots of fans.

Bernd’s few thoughtful fans talk about two of Bernd’s interests: food and restaurants.

Andrea on 23rd January 2006 thinks she can help out Bernd in a different fashion – even though he is charismatic and glamorous she thinks he might need a little friendship. She thanks Bernd for his informative website and recommends he goes to a website offering him a “sex partner tonight“. So for over 3 years Bernd has  generously being offering his fans the chance to

“Get ready to get it on with hot & horny singles, sensational swingers, and 162,927 unbelievable amateur photos! Join the ultimate adult dating and sex personals in the world! “

Even with, or perhaps because of this tempting offer, only 4 more people in the last 3 years have been prepared to come out publicly as fans of Bernd, and I am unsure they are all entirely serious. Perhaps his fans minds get distracted by the link he is kindly offering and they forget to come back to leave a message.

Now with the European elections coming up I am a little surprised to see this style of campaigning, as the CSU is a traditional conservative party. What people do in private is fine by me, but I do not see it as part of my role as a MEP to help my constituents in this part of their lives! Bernd swings though!

In the European election campaign I will be campaigning for a swing to Labour, and Bernd will be labouring for swingers.

So personally Bernd, my advice would be either to  edit, or close down your fan site for now.
