I was very pleased to hear that the British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced has chosen Shepperton Studios and Pinewood Studios as the 2009 recipient of the Award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.
I visited Pinewood Studios after being invited as a member of the European Parliament Culture and Education Committee. The British film industry produces some excellent work and, of course, provides jobs for many people, especially in and around London.

The award is being presented to both studios on 08 February at the BAFTA film awards ceremony (which will be broadcast on BBC 1) in recognition of the key role that both studios have played in British cinema over the decades. In the words of BAFTA “Pinewood and Shepperton stand for excellence”. Both studios have been producing some of the most cherished and spectacular moments in film for nearly 75 years.
